FIND OUT MORE
Claremont Yacht Club is the perfect place for families and children to learn to sail.
All our courses are accredited Yachting Australia Courses and on successful completion, each person will receive a certificate, log book and their qualification recorded in the national data base.
All our instructors are trained by Yachting Australia and their qualifications include first aid and “Working with Children” checks.
TACKERS FOR JUNIOR SAILORS
Claremont Yacht Club has embraced Tackers, a national program aimed at giving children aged between 7 and 12 an opportunity to go sailing in a professional, safe and fun environment.
Everything about Tackers is centred on an understanding of how children learn skills and have fun through sport. The “Optimist” boats used in the Tackers program are small and easy to handle, designed to be sailed by children under the age of 12.
Children don’t need to have any sailing experience and they don’t need to have their own boat. All the equipment, including life jackets and boats, is provided. They don’t even have to be a Member of the Club to participate, though of course we would be delighted if ultimately they decided to become part of the CYC sailing family.
Our Instructors will make sure your children have a great time on the water learning to sail. They play loads of games and go on adventures together to learn how to sail. There isn’t a court, a pitch or an oval like other sports, instead you have the Swan River to explore!
During Tackers sessions, parents can relax and watch their children, and the exquisite view, from the comfort of the clubhouse. You could also consider taking the dog for a walk along the pristine Claremont foreshore.
- 20 hours’ tuition from qualified Yachting Australia Instructors and Assistant Instructors
- Combination of on-water and off-water training games
- A Tackers kit at each level of the program
- A certificate of achievement at the end of the course
