(Start crew, archives, old salts)
The CYC Archives consists of a variety of memorabilia collected since Claremont Yacht Club was formed in 1905. We celebrated the centenary of CYC with the Commodore’s Cup Centenary Race on the 20th March 2005, and the publication of “Claremont Yacht Club; 100 years of History 1905 – 2005”.
Archival material has been collected over the intervening years with several attempts being made to collate and record the items reflecting the many and varied activities of the members. The Archive Crew has continued to sort this substantial collection of photos, trophies, cups and shields, minutes of club committee meetings, boating equipment, as well as information collected from interviews with many club members for the centenary book.
The Archive Crew meets most weeks on Thursday morning and on the first Thursday of every month we have morning tea with the Old Salts. We invite all club members to feel free to join us at any time, either to help collate the Archival material or to view specific records.
The Archive collection is an ongoing project and welcomes donations to the club of memorabilia, documents, and photographs related to Claremont Yacht Club.
The Old Salts is our “Men’s Shed”. The Old Salts gather at the Club on the first Thursday of every month and undertake all sorts of minor maintenance. The work completed by this group of volunteers has helped us with our jetty maintenance projects and keeps the Club’s facilities clean and attractive for members and guests.
Whilst this group is called the “Old Salts” there is no requirement for people to be either old or a salty sea dog in order to join. The only thing that is required when you join this group is your willingness and availability to join fellow Members for Thursday morning tea. Being willing and able to contribute to the various maintenance tasks is a bonus.
If you would like to join this group, contact the office or simply come to the Club on the first Thursday of any month.
